Wednesday Update | On the move in October!

Happy Wednesday everyone! This month has been a very busy one and this weekend’s Breast Cancer Awareness Mini Sessions will be a great end to the month!

Last weekend was a busy one- I had back to back sessions on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday! Here are a few sneak peaks from each :)

First up on Friday was Rhonda. We had a great session on Friday evening and literally missed a huge downpour by minutes when we finished up the shoot! Makeup by Denyelle.

Next up, Saturday afternoon with Derrick & Celeste’s beautiful family! I’d taken their maternity photos about 2 years ago, so it was great to finally meet their daughter. Laila is such a sweet and very smart almost 2-year old! Makeup cared for by client.

And last but certainly not least, on Sunday my favorite hair stylist Anastasia stepped in front of the camera for a change :) She was nervous, but you wouldn’t know it by how fabulous the photos turned out! Makeup by Denyelle.

And I can’t end this Wednesday Update without talking about my new camera!!!!! Lol I am so excited to finally be shooting full-frame! I got my D700 on Monday and I am in love :) I rented the camera for the wedding we shot last Sunday and I knew I had to have it! Well I knew before then, but I’d been on the look out for a great deal and I found it last week! I couldn’t be happier with my new addition and I can’t wait to use it!

In case I don’t get a chance to do another entry before Friday, have a great rest of the week guys!

Wednesday Update | Neon + Neutral Editorial

Part 2 of today’s Wednesday Update :)

So for the past month, I have been working with a number of vendors to bring to life an idea I had for a wedding editorial- Neon + Neutral! I’ve been so inspired lately by the neon/neutral trend and I thought it would be a fun and unique way to do a wedding. We shot the editorial last Saturday at the beautiful Dickson Wine Bar in DC and I am in love with the images!

I won’t be able to share any official photos just yet, but I can share a couple behind the scenes shots taken with instagram by various folks from our team :)

Stay tuned for more info in the coming weeks! I’ll definitely keep you guys posted :)

I’ll be out of town tomorrow through next Monday, so I hope you guys have a great rest of the week and an awesome weekend!

Wednesday Update | Natural Chica

Heyy guys!

So it’s been a few days… and I have soo much to update you guys on :)

Remember the session I did a couple weeks ago with Mae of Natural Chica? Her session has received sooo much love, I just wanted to say a HUGE thank you to everyone who left feedback on the facebook album, Natural Chica’s link, and here on the blog! I also want to extend a big WELCOME to all the new folks that have found me through Mae :) Her session has been my top viewed, liked, commented, & reblogged entry- all thanks to you lovely folks!

Here are a few behind the scenes photos from my lovely makeup artist for Mae’s shoot- Denyelle:

I loove this next one! And I love Denyelle for putting it together :)

So one other awesome thing? (If you follow me on instagram you already know :) Less than a week after our session, I was tagged on instagram in this photo:

And I couldn’t believe it! Was this a magazine? I’d never heard of curlBox! But I looked at their website and saw they are a natural hair product subscription service! I received an email from the company regarding the photo- the art director for curlBox saw Mae’s photos on the web and fell in love with them! They reached out to Mae for use of the photo and she made sure I was properly credited :)

For the next week or so, curlBox posted teaser photos:

And each time I was just as excited as if it was my first time seeing them lol… it’s so awesome seeing my work in print! I am now waiting patiently to receive mine :)

I have soo much to update you guys on, and not enough time! I’ll be doing a second installment later on today about an exciting new project I’ve been working on :)

Till next time!

Wednesday Update | STUDIOS Architecture & Red Thread Sessions

So I think I might institute a new thing… Wednesday Update- where I share the latest news and interesting info, anything new that’s going on with DFinney Photography! what do you think?

We’ll see if I stick with it, but today I have lots of news to share :)

If you follow me on facebook, twitter, or instagram, you probably already know this (I was super excited to share, I couldn’t wait till I blogged about it lol)… I was contacted by STUDIOS Architecture in DC for a last minute job for headshots yesterday and they turned out great! I think it was the quickest booking, shoot, and turnaround ever- all taking place in a matter of 2 days lol. I worked with STUDIOS last year for updated staff headshots so it was a pleasure to work with them again. I was so excited when I checked their website this morning:

image

Guess whose headshots are on the front page?? :D Such an awesome find! And congrats are in order for the 3 new Principals- congrats on your promotions!

Next on the agenda: Have you noticed the new badge over to the right? I am now a Red Thread Sessions Photographer!

image

What is Red Thread Sessions you ask? from their website:

It is a group of photographers who have graciously offered to donate their time to celebrate your adoption through photography. A Red Thread Session is a complimentary photography session held during your homecoming or shortly after you have become an adoptive family. Participating photographers have agreed to celebrate your adoption by completely waiving their session fee and offering edited proofs from your session at no cost to you.

So excited to be a part of this awesome organization and eagerly looking forward to my first session :)

Have you (or someone you know) recently added to your family by means of adoption? You might be eligible for a Red Thread Session!

How do you qualify for a Red Thread Session?
If you have added to your family through adoption within the last 3 months, you qualify for a Red Thread Session! Your adoption must have been final within the last 3 months. You may be asked to show proof of your adoption date given the charitable nature of a Red Thread Session. Each family qualifies for only one Red Thread Session per adoption and must sign a Red Thread Session model release.

If you’re interested, please visit their website for more helpful information

Well, that’s all the news and updates for today! Back to editing I go :)
