Day 4 | Truthy Thursday

...It's been a slooow start to the new year for me.

This time is characteristically busy and full of excitement; New year, new opportunities, new goals! But all of that excitement seems to have been lost on me this time around.

It all just feels like yet another day I have to muddle through. I know it is "just another day", but those "clean slate" feelings have escaped me completely, and I've been feeling kind of bad about that.

Honestly, it's still pretty tricky for me to actually "own" my bipolar 2 diagnosis and understand just how much it affects me :/ Sometimes I feel fine and I am able to get things done easily, be thoughtful, responsive... you know, normal adult things lol. Then (far more times), I feel quite the opposite of fine, and my accomplishments for the day are very minimal- just getting basic things done like: 

And not all of those things in one day lol. So while the world is excited about a new year, I'm just trying to manage consistently eating and actually getting out of bed when I wake up. 

Despite the daily mood and energy shifts, I am still chipping away at things and trying to be productive, so I guess that counts for something? It's just a long road to find exactly what works and what doesn't, so when I'm MIA for days or weeks at a time, that's why. I'm in the mix trying to figure this thing out... or just trying to make it through a crappy day.

While I inherently hope that 2018 will bring me closer to a better way of operating, I fully realize that it's going to take a LOT of effort, but I am ready for it and I look forward to seeing those improvements (no matter how small) in real time.

If you're feeling similarly about the new year, just know that you're not alone, and just like we got through 2017, we'll get through 2018. One day at a time 💚

Which I'm excited about, because I'm all about a streamlined life  :) I will be traveling to Atlanta, Houston, and Chicago this spring and offering both mentoring and photo sessions.

Get a JUMP START on 2018! | News & Updates

It's been a while since my post, so I wanted to pop in with some exciting travel updates for 2018!

Since streamlining my travel in 2017, I will be doing the same for 2018! What does that mean for you? In short, if I will be traveling to one major city, I won't be visiting nearby major cities.

Currently, the following cities are in consideration: 

Are you located in/near (or willing to travel to) one of the above cities, and interested in mentoring, a lifestyle portrait, or business session?

Be sure to specify the city and service you're interested in booking :)

For the FL and TX cities listed, the destination will be determined by where there is a greater cluster of interest.

While it may be a bummer that your city isn't listed, if I will be traveling to a nearby city, I'd still love to work with you! Just think of it this way: I'll be much closer than I would be in DC :)

NOTE: Scheduled dates (for the first 3 cities) will be announced the week of December 4. Mentoring and photo sessions are scheduled on a first come, first served basis and once max availability is reached, no additional appointments will be scheduled. So, if you'd like to work together, I'll need to hear from you this week!

Just a brief note on local availability: 2017 is all booked! Currently, booking is open for February 2018 and beyond, and winter mini sessions are available between February 15 and March 20.

Shajara & Ravee | Washington, DC Lifestyle Photographer

Happy Friday! You made it to the end of another week, and I hope your Friday is treating you well 💚  

Today I have a gorgeous session to share with you from last fall; this couple was such a joy to work with!

Shajara & Ravee were visiting from Charlotte and wanted a DC session to celebrate both their anniversary and Ravee's birthday! Shooting at the monuments was very important to them, so to make sure we had the best light and the least amount of people, we did a sunrise session!*

Sunrise sessions sound great in theory, but man are they hard for a non-morning person (like myself)... BUT I don't mind sacrificing for the sake of art lol. It was a very cold late November morning but you would never know looking at their final images :) We took warm-up breaks, and the gorgeous light helped to heat things up a bit.

In the end, despite the frigid weather, we had a great time and Shajara & Ravee walked away with a gorgeous set of images!

*Note: If you are interested in shooting at any of the DC monuments, yours will be a sunrise session :)

2017 National Boss Day | Washington, DC Business Photographer

Happy Monday!

This morning I heard it was National Boss Day and I was like oh that's cool, I think I should do a post featuring some of my recent sessions with business owners! Then my day got away from me... errands, hair appointment, more errands, etc... and here we are after 11p, so at this point I'm doing this post for me lol.  

Last week I shared two super fun business sessions from Fall 2016 with Stacy and Jenee, and today? I am thrilled to share a collection of images taken over the past year with my wonderful business clients! (Not including corporate work)  

I didn't realize how many sessions I photographed with business owners in 2016 and 2017 lol! BUT I wanted to give my beautiful clients the shine they deserve :) I don't believe any of these have been blogged previously (I do intend to share the full sessions at some point, just don't ask me to give you an ETA lol), so I'm really glad that today presented me with an opportunity to bring this collection to life. 💖

It is such an honor to be able to help my clients bring their brand visuals to life. Helping them put a warm and welcoming face to their business imagery and really showcase their personality? That is absolutely one of my favorite things!
