Happy Monday loves!

I hope you had a wonderful weekend and got a chance to get out and enjoy the gorgeous weather :) The weather in DC this summer has been great! This weekend I had a couple fun sessions (sneak peeks will be posted both on facebook and instagram) but for now I have a sweet family session to share with you from this past spring!

I have been knowing this beautiful family for quite some time… since April and I were in early double digits lol. We kept in touch loosely over the years, so I was very happy when she reached out to do a family session with her husband, parents, and grandmother!

We had a great time together and they walked away with not only gorgeous photos, but wonderful memories to go along with them. Preserving memories is what it’s all about :)

Flaco Shalom + Mentoring + Sneak Peeks

Just wanted to stop in with a quick update on a few things going on!

FLACO SHALOM

Last week I blogged about my situation with artist Flaco Shalom and surprisingly he reached out via email after reading my post. We chatted a bit and he apologized and explained his situation. Honestly I still took the explanations as excuses that a contentious business owner shouldn’t give, but I am truly appreciative of him reaching out and trying to correct the situation.

I’d chalked this up as a loss- both my money and the art so I was willing to give him one last opportunity and if that’s not met, I’ll just get my money back and be done with it. Flaco said my portrait should be complete at the end of the month and if at that time it’s not done, I’ll receive a refund.

For all others who have purchased art from Flaco but didn’t receive it, PLEASE EMAIL HIM FOR YOUR REFUND: flacoshalom@icloud.com

Major lesson learned for me and I won’t be recommending anyone in the future unless I know they are a trustworthy business to deal with.

SUMMER  + FALL MENTORING

Summer is finally slowing down a tad for me this month, but not for long because next month will begin a busy stretch of fall travel and teaching!

I’m also super excited about teaching in LA this November! Two spots were gone the first day i announced it last week, so there are only two left!

WEEKEND SNEAK PEEKS

I haven’t been doing a whole lot of portraits lately with everything else going on so I really enjoyed “getting back to my roots” this past weekend :)

This lovely family came down from NJ for their family session and we had a blast! As their pictures show lol.

This beautiful couple came to me for their engagement photos and I couldn’t have been happier! I also couldn’t have been happier that this wall was soooo perfect for them!! I really had a moment yesterday when I edited this photo. This pleases the OCD within me immensely. The colors, the symmetry, the light… ahh! It’s just all so good lol.

Happy Monday loves!

I have a fun session to share with you today, sure to bring a smile to your face this afternoon :)

Miss Sydia… What can I say about this beautiful lady? 

Sydia was our first session of the day and brought so much great energy to the shoot! She shared with Stephanie and I how she had been following my work for a while, how she was so excited for her session, and the plans for her upcoming blog! So by the time we began her shoot, it was like chatting with an old friend :)

She wanted these photos to have a nice relaxed and fun feel for promotion on and for the new blog, and think they turned out just perfect :) I can’t wait to work with Sydia again and soak up some more of her infectiously joyful personality!

Sheena | Washington, DC Headshot Photographer

Next up today is Sheena!

Sheena is a federal lobbyist for a beauty company and wanted images that were fun that she could still use for work. Headshots that reflect her personality more than the typical crossed arm shot.

Like most of my clients who say they don’t photograph well or don’t like taking pictures, Sheena said the same. I assure them that they will love their photos as long as they relax and that’s just what she did :)

Quick story behind these: Sheena swore she didn’t want the typical arms crossed pose because it was corny… Then I discovered that she stands like that all the time! Lol so we tried it and she ended up liking it.  A pose is only corny when it’s not genuine :)

Melinda | Alexandria, VA Headshot Photographer

Happy Thursday loves!

I’ve been writing all these long posts on the blog this week, so let me stop talking so much and share some pictures lol.

I have a few headshot sessions to share and first up is Melinda!

Melinda and her site designer reached out for what I’m going to call personality headshots :) I was so excited to hear that they’d considered multiple photographers and the decision to go with me was an easy one! (that sound you hear is me cheesing) lol. It was smooth sailing during the preliminary session planning, but the day came and Melinda was nervous and so not looking forward to taking pictures :(

Denyelle and I did our best to help her relax but it didn’t seem like it was working lol. Melinda said that she really doesn’t like taking pictures so it was hard to relax. Well, we got started and guess what? She ended up having a great time :D

So great in fact that I got the sweetest email from her after our session:

“Danielle - Thank you SO MUCH for yesterday.  You turned something I was not looking forward to into a truly enjoyable day.  The authentic smiles and laughter you said you saw were a product of you being you.  I love being around people that are doing what they love to do.  That in itself makes me happy.

So thank you for helping me through yesterday and making it fun.  You rock!  I’m now really excited to see the pictures!

Her message made my day! I can’t tell you how happy it makes me that I’m able to have little breakthroughs like this with my clients. I really enjoy what I do and the fact that I’m able to make others feel good in the process is a sweet bonus :)
