Day In The Life: April 25, 1953 | Washington, DC Fashion Photographer

About a month ago I had the privilege of working with an awesome team to help bring this idea to life! I’d been thinking of doing a shoot like this for a while… I started back in October when I did my first vintage styled shoot and I’ve been in love ever since! I plan to do a full vintage series so look for a few more installments in the future :)

This time around, I had a slightly different team: Monica was our lovely model, hair was cared for by Anastasia of VisuallyChic, makeup by Larissa of HAUS of LV, and styling was cared for by myself along with Shannon of House of JAT- the second dress is a custom design from her boutique!

I had a blast working with these ladies! Hopefully we’ll get to work on a few more projects together. Anyway I am going to stop rambling let these images speak for themselves :)

Enjoy!

Coleman Family | Alexandria, VA Family Photographer

Three day weekends always seem to go by so fast, don’t they?! Well, regular weekends definitely go by fast, so I guess 3 days instead of 2 isn’t so bad :) I hope everyone enjoyed their time off and got a chance to spend time with family and friends!

I did a little of everything this weekend and spent some time with this lovely little family on Sunday evening! Prepare yourself because this little one is FULL of personality and he knows how to use it! lol

Marleen, you have a beautiful family! It was a pleasure photographing you three :)

Jason & Ikea | Washington, DC Engagement Photographer

Just over a month ago I met with this lovely couple to discuss the ideas they had for their engagement session and I knew it would be a good one! They are planning for a September 2013 wedding and I’d say they are well on their way to creating a beautifully memorable wedding day. Ikea didn’t have specific ideas for the session but she knew she wanted flowers & greenery- just enough info to get my wheels turning and I found the perfect spot for their photos :) Though we had to deal with a few pesky insects, their photos turned out great! Ikea & Jason are such a fun & easygoing couple and their love flows effortlessly as the following photos will show :)

Wednesday Update | STUDIOS Architecture & Red Thread Sessions

So I think I might institute a new thing… Wednesday Update- where I share the latest news and interesting info, anything new that’s going on with DFinney Photography! what do you think?

We’ll see if I stick with it, but today I have lots of news to share :)

If you follow me on facebook, twitter, or instagram, you probably already know this (I was super excited to share, I couldn’t wait till I blogged about it lol)… I was contacted by STUDIOS Architecture in DC for a last minute job for headshots yesterday and they turned out great! I think it was the quickest booking, shoot, and turnaround ever- all taking place in a matter of 2 days lol. I worked with STUDIOS last year for updated staff headshots so it was a pleasure to work with them again. I was so excited when I checked their website this morning:

Guess whose headshots are on the front page?? :D Such an awesome find! And congrats are in order for the 3 new Principals- congrats on your promotions!

Next on the agenda: Have you noticed the new badge over to the right? I am now a Red Thread Sessions Photographer!

What is Red Thread Sessions you ask? from their website:

It is a group of photographers who have graciously offered to donate their time to celebrate your adoption through photography. A Red Thread Session is a complimentary photography session held during your homecoming or shortly after you have become an adoptive family. Participating photographers have agreed to celebrate your adoption by completely waiving their session fee and offering edited proofs from your session at no cost to you.

So excited to be a part of this awesome organization and eagerly looking forward to my first session :)

Have you (or someone you know) recently added to your family by means of adoption? You might be eligible for a Red Thread Session!

How do you qualify for a Red Thread Session?
If you have added to your family through adoption within the last 3 months, you qualify for a Red Thread Session! Your adoption must have been final within the last 3 months. You may be asked to show proof of your adoption date given the charitable nature of a Red Thread Session. Each family qualifies for only one Red Thread Session per adoption and must sign a Red Thread Session model release.

If you’re interested, please visit their website for more helpful information

Well, that’s all the news and updates for today! Back to editing I go :)

Monochrome Motif | Washington, DC Fashion Photographer

This set was totally inspired by a skirt lol… yep, the moment I laid eyes on this awesome black & white striped skirt by Shannon at House of JAT, I knew I had to do a shoot with it. I was inspired by the skirt SO much I even bought shoes to match! Well kinda… I like stripes so I was going to get the shoes anyway lol.

When I came across this cool black & white mural in DC, the vision came together and my fabulous model Erica nailed it- These are the resulting images :)
