August Headshot Special | Washington, DC

Happy Friday all! As promised, today details for the headshot special are here :)

I’ve gotten many inquiries for headshots over the years and I’m not sure why it never occurred to me before now to do a special, but in celebration of our brand new websites and the newly expanded business portrait offerings, here it is!

What’s the difference between business and lifestyle packages? High-resolution image files. Prints are purchased separately with lifestyle sessions whereas the final high-resolution files are included at no additional charge with business packages.

Don’t let the name fool you :) This is just what you’re looking for whether you need corporate/linkedin headshots, actor headshots, a few photos for your modeling portfolio, or a few photos to promote yourself as a musician, recording artist, photographer, writer, motivational speaker, etc… EVERYBODY needs a great headshot!

And these aren’t your standard ‘stand and look’ headshots either :) Each session with DFinney Photography is customized to meet your needs and the look you’d like to convey!

Well enough of my talking, let’s get into the details!

Headshot Mini Sessions are $200 and include the following:

• Pre-consult to ensure your photo session will be just what you want! 
• 20 min photo session for 1 person*
• 1 outfit 
• Your choice of 3 high-resolution images from your set.

To take advantage of this special offer, you must be located in (or willing to travel to) Washington, DC. Your session must be booked no later than August 19, 2013 for a session to be photographed on August 24, 2013. All mini sessions will be photographed at an awesome location in the city!

*Makeup unfortunately is not included with the special as it is with the standard business packages, but it is always highly recommended for a polished look. When you book, please let me know if you would like makeup as well and I will put you in touch with one of my fabulous makeup artists!

A Little Thursday Inspiration | Alexa Meade

Happy Thursday all!

Today’s post features the work of an absolutely amazing artist by the name of Alexa Meade, an artist based out of Los Angeles, California.

She makes REAL LIFE paintings! Lol. I seriously stared at the photos of Alexa’s work for quite some time because I’d never seen anything like it. She is able to make 3D objects and people look 2D with incredible ease. In fact, if you didn’t see the pull back shots of the photos below, you would never know they were real people.

Anyway enough of my talking, just LOOK at this awesomeness!

A Little Thursday Inspiration | Studio of Modé

Has it really been almost a YEAR since my last inspiration post?! Let’s resurrect this feature and make this a weekly thing, shall we?

Today’s post features the work of Modé, an artist from Lagos, Nigeria. I’ve been following her work for a couple years now and I absolutely love her style! Specifically her watercolor paintings and illustrations… the way she works with color is absolutely beautiful!

Truthy Tuesday | Entrepreneur doesn't always equal awesome

Hello lovelies!

So excited to share something a little different with you guys today- Truthy Tuesday! What is Truthy Tuesday you ask? Well I wanted to shed a little more light on things behind the scenes here, so i thought what better way than to blog about it :) My hope is to have this as a recurring feature where I get to share a little more of the personal side of DFinney Photography. 

Today I’d like to talk a bit about being a [young] business owner. 

Last week I was privileged to have a Creative Spotlight feature on Sabra Morris Media’s blog and the response was amazing! I’m always appreciative of the positive feedback when people hear my story. “That’s so awesome! It must be great being able to do what you love!” I hear variations of that sentiment often, and you know what? It is pretty great being able to do what I love… but it’s also not so great sometimes too. 

Like when you have to turn down social events because of work, or when you’re thinking about all the things you have to do when you’re finally AT a social event, or having your friends mess with you about “always working”… Let me just say this: I would LOVE to not have to work or think about work all the time! Who wouldn’t? Lol. The fact that I also love my job doesn’t make it any less of a job. In fact, because I have my own business makes it even MORE of a job. Jobs that end when you clock out assuredly have their pros and cons, much like being an entrepreneur does… but the pros and cons differ greatly. 

In exchange for the freedom having my own business brings, comes the responsibility of caring for EVERYTHING. Taking photos of course, location scouting, inspiration gathering, photo retouching, client correspondence, social media interaction, marketing ideas and implementation, designing the blog, websites, business cards, flyers, info guides, managing finances, continuing to improve my craft with workshops, blogs, etc… not to mention the countless other things that I’m probably forgetting. Yes, not all small business owners have to do everything themselves, but they sure do starting out! This is just year 4 for me and while it would be nice, money is not flowing freely enough for me to hire a staff lol. I do have an intern now who helps with some things, but a lot I still need to do myself… and that equals “always working” which is not something a 20something wants to be doing all the time.

I guess I say all that to say that while things may look “easy”, they are far from it. BUT I do still very much love my job and I’m incredibly thankful for my beautiful clients, friends and family for their support over these past 4 years. I know it’s hard to completely understand without truly knowing what’s going on behind the scenes, so here’s a little peek at it from my standpoint :)

I have to stop myself here because I could write on this topic all day, but I’ll save some for the next installment of Truthy Tuesday lol. Let me know what you thought of this one!

Summer Mini Session Special | Washington, DC

Happy Wednesday!

I hope everyone has been managing to keep cool during the heatwave this week!

As promised, TODAY is the day you get in on the action- Summer Mini Sessions are here! Those who signed up for our mailing list got exclusive access to book on Monday- a full two days before anyone else! As a result, there are fewer slots available so you’ll have to move fast!

Mini Sessions are $250 and include the following:

• Pre-consult to ensure your photo session will be just what you want! 
• Professional makeup application for 1 
• 30 min photo session for up to 4 people 
• 1 outfit 
• Custom editing of the best 10-15 images selected by the photographer 
• 1 mounted 5x7 print 
• Private digital proof gallery for ordering

The minimum print requirement has been waived for the special. All prints, digital negatives and photo products are sold a la carte. All prices subject to 6% Maryland sales tax.

To make sure everyone looks as fabulous as can be- makeup will be included in the session fee! That way you save a bit because it would be an additional $25 if you paid for makeup separately. You can expect the same flawless look for your photos that you see on my site because you’ll be working with my favorite makeup artists :)
